More about Willamette Shore Trolley

The Willamette Shore Trolley has been providing scenic trolley rides on a 6-mile section of historic rail line between Lake Oswego and Portland, Oregon since 1988 and is operated by volunteer members of the Oregon Electric Railway Historical Society (a 501(c)3 non-profit Oregon corporation).

Ride our replica "Council Crest" trolley car along the shore of the Willamette River. During your journey you'll ride by stately mansions, over several bridges, and through the 1400 foot Elk Rock Tunnel.

The line was opened for service from Oswego (now Lake Oswego) to Portland on July 4th, 1887 as a narrow gauge steam railroad known as the Portland and Willamette Valley Railroad.

It was later purchased by the Southern Pacific and standard-gauged around the 1900s.

From 1914 to 1929 the S.P. ran their "Red Electric" interurban trains over the line from Portland to Corvallis.

After passenger service was terminated, freight service continued until the 1980s when the line was purchased by a consortium of government agencies to preserve the right-of-way for future streetcar service.
