Williams College Summer Theatre Lab

The WILLIAMS COLLEGE SUMMER THEATRE LAB serves as an opportunity for current Williams students to create and develop new theatre alongside visiting artists and returning alums.

Now in its thirteenth season, the Lab serves as an opportunity for current Williams students to create and develop new theatre alongside visiting artists and returning alums. For seven weeks, the Lab ensemble will work in a professional environment free from critical and commercial pressure. The Lab’s goal is to foster creative experimentation, artistic risk-taking, and the collaborative process while providing students with new skills and a professional network.

The Williams College Summer Theatre Lab was established in 2005 by founding Artistic Director Kevin O'Rourke '78 who provided a decade of artistic leadership. The Lab is currently led by Caitlin Sullivan '07.

Since its founding, the Lab has developed over twenty-five theatrical works involving almost one hundred undergraduates and dozens of visiting alumni. Alumni projects have included new musicals from Michael Winther ’85 and The Bengsons '05, new plays from Adam LeFevre ’72 , Jay Tarses ’61, Martha Williamson '77 and Amanda Keating '12, and theatrical collaborations with David Gurcay-Morris '96 and the Satori Group '07. The Lab has also collaborated with a number of guest artists and organizations including work with Mallery Avidon, Dipika Guha, ZSpace, Here Art Center, and the 2007 Williamstown Theatre Festival/Summer Theatre Lab co-production of Friedrich Durrenmatt’s THE PHYSICISTS starring Roger Rees and John Feltch ’80.
