More about Windsor County Farm Bureau - Vermont

The Vermont Farm Bureau is a grassroots organization with policies and priorities set at the County level by individual farmer members in a democratic process that dates back to our beginning. Farm Bureau began as an arm of the Chamber of Commerce in Broome County, New York in 1911. The idea quickly spread to several other Counties in the Northeast including Windsor County, Vermont, and the County Farm Bureau was born. Beginning with a handful of County Farm Bureaus, Vermont Farm Bureau was established in 1915. By late 1917, the Farm Bureau movement had spread across the Country and gave rise to the idea of an American Farm Bureau Federation, all the while respecting the original grass roots structure that gave the individual farmer delegate at the County level control over the issues and solutions generated for the good of American agriculture. Vermont Farm Bureau is the state's largest non-profit trade association of agricultural producers.

About 4000 member families in all fourteen counties have joined together to solve problems common to the agricultural community. While members join at the county level, a membership gives you access to all the benefits of the County Farm Bureau, the Vermont Farm Bureau and the American Farm Bureau Federation, the world's largest agricultural advocacy organization with over 6 million family members nation wide.

Our 93 years of experience on issues relating to agriculture here in Vermont has made us widely considered the "Voice of Agriculture" in the Green Mountain state. This respect for the grassroots policy development process and emphasis on every members input have propelled Farm Bureau in to playing a critical role in shaping public policy locally and at the state and national levels.

You don't have to be a farmer or forester to join Farm Bureau. If you want to help save family farms and preserve Vermont's rural character, Farm Bureau is one way to help. We encourage all friends of farmers, foresters, horticulturalists, private property owners and agribusiness to support the organization that speaks for agriculture in Vermont, but most importantly if you are interested in helping preserve and strengthen a integral part of Vermont's working landscape, Farm Bureau is the place for you.
