Windy City Fusion

Fusion is a genre of contemporary American partner dance that focuses on combining different dance and music styles together. This can be as simple as doing a style of dance to a non-traditional music genre, but often involves using steps and techniques from multiple dance styles in one dance.

Fusion is a contemporary American partner dance that is still in its infancy, and can mean different things to different people. Universally, fusion focuses on musicality, partner connection, and creativity. For beginners, fusion can mean a traditional dance style done to non-traditional music genre. Intermediate dancers can experiment with having conversations in dance between different dance styles and/or genres with their partner. For those who know multiple dance styles, fusion creates an opportunity to use all the steps, shapes, moves, and other techniques they know in a single night, and many of them in a single dance. It's like being able to to use every crayon in your box to express yourself instead of limiting yourself to just the ones that traditionally go together.

Windy City Fusion focuses on introducing dancers to the fusion concepts of dance, but also to the different dance genres that have come together to form fusion, such as blues, swing (west coast and lindy), tango, salsa, zouk, bachata, and more. The free beginner lesson will rotate through different dance styles, but will also focus on fusion techniques for how these disparate dances can (and do!) connect together.
