More about Wisebroad's

COMING SOON - Summer 2016!!!

Wisebroad’s, located in beautiful downtown Willmar, MN, is part of something BIG!

The Historic 313 – The Hub on Fourth Street in Willmar is an economic development project based on the area's #1 asset, rich agricultural land. The mission of this community development project, three years in the making, is to increase access to, appreciation for, and enjoyment of healthy, local foods through local food system & community development.

A joint project between Willmar Downtown Development and the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota, The Hub anticipates additional funding from a series of grant proposals through State, Federal and private foundation submittals.

Urban greenhouses, community gardens, retail food-based tenants and a community food center, which will offer food preparation and educational presentations, such as food safety and cooking classes, are key project initiatives which go a long way toward food security for all people in the region. Earlier this month, project greenhouses had a successful seedling sale, and have been selling fresh greens for weeks. Five acres of community garden plots are planted, to the delight of residents.

Additionally, the project includes preservation of an important historic building and jobs that cannot be outsourced are being created at every level.

The home of The Hub is an 8,000 square foot building, originally built in 1937 in the Art Deco style. How did Willmar, Minnesota end up with an Art Deco building? We’re not sure, but we are saving it! Construction and remodeling, designed by Engan Associates and managed by Willmar Downtown Development, is well underway, including renovation of the original terrazzo floors, charming curved glass windows, build out of tenant spaces and brand new roof and building services. The exciting urban design is a stunning example of redesign and re-use of an art deco building brought to life again.

The first retail tenant, Foxhole Brewhouse, opened in 2015 and offers hand crafted brew fresh from the tap. Three additional tenants, Spurs Restaurant (gourmet Mexican and Ice cream shop); Minnesota Local (local foods producers group selling meats, cheese, honey, eggs etc.); and Wisebroad's which will offer wine on tap, craft beer, hand crafted pizza, Yummy Cheezecakes, good cheer and a dash of attitude, all look to be open by Fall 2016.

The Big Kitchen, which will host guest chefs, offer food classes and house the Willmar Food HUB, where fresh locally-grown produce will be packaged, prepared and sold, and The Small Kitchen, a fully equipped commercial kitchen available for community use, are in the works for later this year as well.

A huge variety of community events, involving Willmar’s culturally diverse downtown area, will take place in and around Historic 313. The Barn Theatre, which just completed a beautiful remodel, is conveniently located next door and Becker Market, the local farmers’ market, sets up in front and inside of the building. Later, Fourth Street will become a pedestrian mall called “Eat Street,” featuring outdoor seating in front of Historic 313, as well as a landscaped patio area and additional parking in the rear of the building once this local foods economic development project is complete.

Wisebroad’s is excited to be right in the middle of the action!
