Hello, I'm Debbie Jackson. I live in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains of East Tennessee. A place where religion and heritage have always been taken very seriously even today. I am a mother of a 21 year old son, a wife to a wonderful husband. I also have a little dash hound "Sophie". She was a rescue. Animals are a passion of mine also. I work with Special Needs Children they teach me all the innocents and virtues of life. I have Mixed Connective Tissue Disease which can be tough at times but it's hard to feel sorry for yourself when you love the job I love. I grew up watching, being taught and sometimes strongly persuaded to learn all things from being self sufficient to making beautiful artwork. The women in my family and the community in general passed the mountain arts down everything from quilting, embroidery, sewing, flower and vegetable gardening. Being surrounded by all these things are why I love to make things that I can be proud of and that other people can enjoy. The "Wishing Posies Shop" is all handmade paper flowers. Believe it or not this is also a mountain craft. The women in the community would work together for many months making paper flowers for "Decoration Day" decorating the graveyard of loved ones passed. Some of the flowers would be dipped in wax so they would last longer. Although I have only saw old pictures of the brightly covered graves. The older ladies say that the pictures don't do the flowers justice. I guess what sums it up is I have a furious love for things people make with their hands and love.
