"In the early days, we were strictly residential and commercial lawn maintenance. Then, we dove a little deeper -- beginning to dig holes and filling them with various trees, shrubs and other colorful plants... what most people call landscaping! After two years in business, more and more people were stopping by to purchase the plants we had ordered for landscape jobs. I quickly realized that our business was growing and needed to be located on a main traffic artery. On July 12, 1985, four acres of prime land were purchased on Two Notch Road in the Northeast area of Columbia (back when it was just the woods and the railroad). What's the saying? 'If you build it, they will come,' and y'all came! In April of 1986, our first garden center and retail store opened. I even got to name a street after it...Woodleys Way!
With the support of my family, I began to work on a second location in the Irmo. In a cow pasture off Dreher Shoals Road, construction began in summer of 2006. We opened our second location on March 17, 2007 with a grand opening ribbon cutting event on May 4, 2007. I like to say that it takes a village to raise a garden center and little-by-little, our new and loyal customers raised our Woodley's of Irmo location. Its neighboring residential area, Garden Brooke, is nestled and growing behind the garden center with beautiful green spaces and walking paths. Today, Woodley's Garden Center of Irmo is our second full-service retail operation on three acres.
I thank our many loyal customers. You are all part of our family and I'm very grateful for those
who have followed us in our journey and for those who have joined us along the way."
