We are excited and thrilled to announce that Workshop in The Woods will return for the summer of 2015 under new management!
Workshop in the Woods is a summer camp with 1-one week session and 2, 2-week sessions. During each 2-week session, children rotate through 5 workshops daily. Campers will have an opportunity to learn from passionate specialists in each area of interest while building community and gaining an understanding and appreciation of ecology, art, performance, craft, and general sense of community. The program's goal is to encourage creative expression, build self-esteem, and foster a love and pride of community and surrounding nature. Workshop in the Woods is a program developed to support summer fun and community pride.
What are the workshops composed of?
ART, has a main focus on painting, drawing, print-making and sculpting. These areas of art can be explored on canvas, paper, fabric, wood, clay, wire and metals.
THEATER, will celebrate song, theater, dance, puppets, and music with the goal of an ensemble presentation as the final event each session.
CRAFT, teaches design and how to use tools to create useful items, developing skills for practical uses and creative expression, along with repurposing objects to make them new again!
NATURE, will introduce ecosystems, shelters, animal observation, geology and an appreciation for unspoiled nature through hikes, art projects, journal-keeping, folklore and games.
COMMUNITY will support the daily routines of the program. Community also hosts team sports, leadership opportunities, group challenges, scavenger hunts and games. The goal is to promote unity. A Camp Denison restoration and beautification project will be one of the activities for community workshop as well as a weekly campus news letter.
