POTTERY WITH A VIEW

The York River Pottery Company, opening in Fall 2015, is the dream of owner, Stephanie Kessel. Stephanie worked in Washington D.C. as an Interior Designer for nearly a decade before moving to Gloucester Point, Va, and into the house she visited every summer as a child. This house that was built by her grandfather and great-grandfather almost 100 years ago has been a source of peace and a place of respite for her family since that time. The property, known as Gunpoint because of its role in the Revolutionary War, has views of the York River, Yorktown, the Coleman bridge, Sarah's Creek, the Yacht Haven and the nearby nests that the Osprey have enjoyed over the last 30 years, the closest of which is atop a post that was commissioned by her grandfather in 1975. This is a very special place indeed and one that she would like to share with the community in the form of a Paint Your Own Pottery studio.

Stephanie has an M.F.A. or Master of Fine Arts from The Savannah College of Art & Design and along with her husband, Danny, is raising a daughter, Evie, a toddler with more personality than all the water in the York River. Stephanie, Danny, and Evie are excited about the prospect of letting others experience the joy and peace that comes from looking out over the water (oh, and painting pottery too!).

The YRPC will be located on the screened in sun porch of this cherished old farm house and will be open, by appointment only, from 10 am until 7 pm Mon-Sat.
