Youth Special Camp

Special Camp was created over 30 years ago by a group of counselors dedicated to youth with special needs. It has flourished ever since! It is truly one of the most special weeks of the summer at Camp Sumatanga. The counselors and staff are dedicated to the happiness of each camper. This is evident by the fact that most campers and counselors come back to camp year after year!

Persons between the ages of 13 and 25 with significant cognitive disabilities who can readily participate in group activities may attend. Persons should be ambulatory, self-sufficient in toilet needs, and a non-bed-wetter. Persons are welcome at Camp Sumatanga without regard to race, nationality, or creed. A person with severe problems or handicaps will be enrolled at the discretion of the Special Events Committee.

CAMP ACTIVITIES
Typical family group activities include music, games, crafts, and more!
The evening activities may include field day games, a movie, a DJ party, a talent show, and more!
Campers also enjoy hiking, nature trails, and other outdoor activities.
On Friday night we have a party! This is one of the highlights of the week for the campers. Each year we have a different theme and we even wear costumes!
A camp DVD and picture CD will be available for purchase. These items may be purchased upon arrival or departure. Proceeds benefit future Special Camps.
