The purpose of this web page is to support and celebrate grassroots efforts across Maine to make our towns and cities better places to live, play, and work. Age-Friendly communities are good places for people of all ages who are aging in community (and that is all of us!--each of us got one second older while reading this).
The cities of Portland and Ellsworth Maine were the first two municipalities to join the AARP-Network of Age-Friendly Communities. They were quickly joined by the towns of Bethel, Bowdoinham, Greenwood, Kennebunk, Paris, Newry, and Woodstock.
All of the municipalities that have joined the network have made a commitment to making their community a place where older residents aging in place can maximize their health and well-being.
However, joining the Network of Age-Friendly Communities is not the only way to make your community a better place for all ages. Citizen groups, service providers, and municipalities across the state are finding ways to make their town, region, or neighborhood age-friendly.
Please post if you are a member of the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities or if you are working on a different type of initiative. All are welcome! Our goal is to create a web page where all types of age-friendly efforts can share ideas and celebrate their success!
