Our style, Shotokan, is non-contact with basic components consisting of blocking, punching, kicking and striking. Classes are offered for anyone over eight years of age. Instruction is available for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

History

Established in 1985.

The Association for Shotokan Karate of Napa (or ASK of Napa) was founded by Sensei Greg Leonard, Yondan (fourth degree black belt) in May of 1985. He and his wife, Candace, offered classes to the public in various training spaces in Napa. In early 1988, they opened their first dojo (training hall) at 714 First Street near the Oxbow Public Market.

ASK of Napa is a member of the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF). This membership ensures the highest standard and uniformity of teaching, ranking and competition judging.

Rick and Chela P. Business Owner

Rick and Chela are the owners and Chief Instructors at ASK of Napa. They trained under the guidance of their instructor, Sensei Greg Leonard, who retired in May of 2001. Rick is ranked Yondan (fourth degree black belt) and Chela, Godan (fifth degree black belt) in the largest karate group in the world, the International Shotokan Karate Federation (ISKF).
