More about Bear Lake Academy of Martial Arts

The bear Lake Academy of Martial arts strives to provide quality martial arts training in a fun and encouraging atmosphere. The two main instructors are Sensei Jenn and Sensei Shelly.
Sensei Jenn has been practicing martial arts for ten years. She began when she was fourteen and has worked hard in her training. In May of 2013 she received her black belt but has been teaching since she was a yellow belt. In 2012 Sensei Jenn received Grand Champion in a South-Eastern Idaho martial arts tournament. In May of 2013 she also took ownership of the Academy of Mixed Martial Arts, recently changing the name to Bear Lake Academy of Martial Arts. She has been head Sensei there since then and has worked hard to establish a strong martial arts school in Bear Lake.
Sensei Shelly received her Black Belt August of 2014 after training in martial arts for eight years. Shelly worked hard to prove herself as a fierce martial artist, despite set backs due to injuries. Sensei Shelly has proven herself to be an excellent instructor of martial arts.
Both women are continuing their martial arts instruction through the tutorship of Master Scott Southwick a seventh degree martial artist. The ladies agree that one of the best things about martial arts is that it can be a life-long journey. Even after reaching black belt there is still years of training to take advantage of. Martial arts was developed over thousands of years and it is impossible to learn all of that knowledge, however both sensei's strive to learn as much as they can.
The best part is- martial arts is more than an activity it is a life style. "We work hard to teach the students things like respect, self-discipline, responsibility, humility and other important character traits. All of these things combined we refer to as a "black belt attitude." Sensei Jenn said, when asked about training children and adults to be martial artist.
Each student is taught on an individual basis in a group setting. Communicating and addressing students as individuals is important to the Academy and hard work is put into making sure each student receives the best training possible.
