More about Crazy Horse Saloon & Grill

You've heard the phrase, "If these walls could talk." When you come to the Crazy Horse and listen closely, they might have quite a yarn to weave. To visit Nevada City is to be immersed in one of California's most historical towns. This was the heart of the gold rush. Our building dates all the way back to 1862. The earliest available records are from 1885 when it was J.J. Jackson's Grocery. The heritage of an old western pioneer outpost is still palpable. The Crazy Horse Saloon & Grill was known as the Chief Crazy Horse Inn & Saloon when it first opened as a bar in the mid 60's. Many of our patrons get wide-eyed with nostalgia when they return to the place where they had so many memorable, and in some cases, forgettable, evenings.

The soulful identity of the Chief Crazy Horse went astray in the late 2000's when the owner at the time decided to hop on the trendy bandwagon and convert the bar into a frozen yogurt shop. Locals were none too amused and the doors were soon shut for a couple years. Then swooped into the picture a vivacious blonde visionary with the industry experience and gumption to guide the Horse out of the pasture. Along with plenty of assistance from a team of faithful friends, Terra Saxton began a comprehensive renovation of the building from the ground up. The exterior remains the same but just about everything inside is totally reimagined. Soothing to the baby boomers and plenty hip for gens x & y, everyone can agree on the Moroccan lighting fixtures, lofty ceilings and relaxed ambience.

A few days after Thanksgiving of 2012, the Crazy Horse Saloon & Grill was finally ready to ride. The reincarnated establishment is now a full-service restaurant, well-stocked sports bar, concert venue and Nevada City's only seven-day, late night eatery. Putting even more energy into the kitchen than the cocktails, food at the Crazy Horse is no afterthought. This isn't your average bar grub. In addition to classic appetizers, our patrons adore quasi-gourmet morsels like hand-breaded zucchini sticks, stuffed jalapeno poppers wrapped in bacon and a smoked salmon plate. Using a half-pound of all-natural Niman Ranch beef, our burgers are a specialty. Catering to all palates, we also offer salmon burgers or handmade, soy-free veggie patties. In the sandwich department, none is more popular than Chicken Pesto served on a fresh ciabatta roll. Salads, like the Greek for example, are far from boring fare. Daily specials, soups and ethnic offerings have been available more frequently as time progresses.

The Crazy Horse is a family friendly establishment with kids welcome until 8pm. We have five flatscreen HD TVs featuring all your favorite sports including NFL Sunday Ticket and the MLB package. Our reputation as the coolest intimate venue in town for live music grows stronger by the day as we host bands every weekend and often during the week. In addition to local dynamos like Achilles Wheel, Bob Woods Trio and Earles of Newtown, you can catch an array of nationally touring acts representing an expansive range of styles. On any given night, the crowd at the Crazy Horse is a melting pot of demographics, with the commonality of a warm, fun-loving, dance-happy vibe.
