More about CUMC/Music

Making music is one of the healthiest things we can do in life. Too many people, though, merely listen to music instead of making music. A Day of Music will give you a morning to explore and experience the joy of making music. No prior music experience is needed to enjoy this day!

FOR ADULTS and YOUTH:
Are you uncertain of how to make to music with your voice? Take one of Elizabeth Melvin’s Singing for Everyone sessions. Do you love the excitement of contemporary gospel music but have never sung in a gospel choir? Take one of Eric Byrd’s Gospel Choir sessions. Have you always wanted to play the guitar but don’t know where to start? Take Eddie Brooks’ Introduction to the Acoustic Guitar. Do you love the sound of handbells but are uncertain about how to play in a handbell choir? Join Up and Ringing in No Time with Barb Scheffter. Do you love rhythm but never quite mastered how to play a drum? Go to Jaqui MacMillan’s Introduction to the Joy of Hand Drumming. If you already have experience in handbells, drumming, or guitar, go to one of the classes offered in the second session for more experienced players.

FOR CHILDREN:
Children of elementary age will have opportunities to sing, dance, and play percussion instruments during four half-hour sessions, led by Judy Dubose, Kevin Lloyd, Jenn Shipley, and Carmen Hilton. Pre-schoolers and younger will love the Music and Movement class offered in the nursery.

All children must be accompanied by an adult, and the adult is free to enjoy an adult music session, or observe one of the children’s sessions.

ALL-GROUP SESSION – At noon, we will all gather and make music together with the morning session leaders.

All music session are free and open to all! Please register by Wednesday, August 24, 2016. Some of the sessions are limited in size, so register early! Details about each session are given below.
