American Legion Ambulance Station 64 provides the towns of Smyrna and Clayton as well as other surrounding areas of Delaware Emergency Medical Basic Life Support Care. Founding in 1924 by World War I Veterans of the David C. Harrison American Legion Post 14 the American Legion Ambulance Station became the first American Legion to provide medical care thus becoming " First in the World." Today the Ambulance Station operates four Basic Life Support Units with a combination of Volunteer and Paid Staff and in 2013 responded to over 3,200 calls.
