Holy Cross School was built in the Summer of 1916 and was staffed by the Dominican Sisters. In 1947 twelve lots adjoining the school property were purchased as the future site of a new church. In 1940 the Dominican Sisters established a Convent at Holy Cross which was purchased by the parish in 1952. In 1953 eighteen lots between North Shirley and Winnifred Streets on 44th Street were acquired for playground and parking area. In July 1954 an addition to the school was completed, which included five classrooms, furnace room, and lavatory facilities. The School closed in 1977.
