More about Keeler Tavern Museum and History Center

In 1965, a group of Ridgefield residents came together out of a common interest to preserve the history of the Keeler Tavern, a local and important landmark located in the heart of town. Concerned about protecting its original structure, artifacts and historical importance to the community, they formed the Keeler Tavern Preservation Society, Inc. By 1966, they raised enough money to purchase the property and convert it into the Keeler Tavern Museum, which was opened to the public in July of that year. Since then, the Keeler Tavern Museum has provided both educational and cultural programs designed to maintain and promote its significance as a living example of life from the early 18th century colonial period through the mid 20th century. Fascinating historical facts are available from the Keeler, Resseguie and Gilbert family archives, three families who resided in the Keeler Tavern during these times. The Keeler Tavern Museum was designated as an historical landmark in 1982. The mission of the Keeler Tavern Preservation Society, Inc. remains committed to promoting Ridgefield’s history and heritage through programs, tours, and special events. It is governed by a President and a Board of Directors and relies heavily on the support of donors, members, volunteers, and support from the community. Please contact the business office at 203-438-5485, Monday – Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, or email info@keelertavernmuseum.org.
