Fawn Lei started out to be a Sushi Chef but was turned down for a long time because she was a women. Really how many female Sushi Chef's have you seen? Finally an older Chef nicknamed Okea said he would train her. So they started, her first job was to clean the floor and wash the sushi refrigerator. After a year together she finally branched out on her own and has been a Head Sushi Chef at Tokyo City in Allston, Kyotoya in Stoneham and Sarku in Woburn. In 2009 she opened Okea Grill on Lafayette St in Salem named after the wise gentleman who gave her a chance. As Sushi Chef and manager she built a wonderful restaurant that was voted three times "Best Sushi on the North Shore" by Northshore Magazine and five times "Best Sushi Salem MA" by Wicked Local. Now six years later she has moved to her new location 293 Jefferson Ave and won 2015 Best Sushi Wicked Local! Now she has Jackie Fang as Okea's Head Sushi Chef.
