Sassafras Canine Service Academy

Description: In 1996 Steve met Chuck while Steve was looking for a Labrador puppy. Chuck had a litter for sale in Ball Ground, GA. Steve bought a male black Labrador pup named Bo, that started a relationship both professionally and personally that lead to the founding of the Sassafras Canine Service Academy (SCSA).

Steve and Chuck founded SCSA in order utilize their knowledge of dog behavior, breeding, and training in order to provide the community next generation canine service candidates and canine servants. Chuck and Steve have over 40 years of combined experience training canines for the field, the home, and for law enforcement.

Currently, SCSA is specializing on providing the Diabetic community with the finest Diabetic Alert Dogs (DAD). SCSA is utilizing a gene pool for Labrador Retrievers that were personally developed by Chuck since the early 1980’s. Recently, SCSA has begun to accumulate some of the finest genetics of the Golden Retriever breed to also be utilized in our canine service programs. Our genetics can be utilized in many areas of canine service: pet, hunting, trial competition, FEMA recovery, narcotics detection, arson detection, and Search and Rescue.
